About: Andrea Bennett holds a BA in Art History from Wellesley College and is an MFA candidate in Creative Writing at the University of California, Riverside. She is the former editor-in-chief of Vegas magazine and group editor-in-chief of several city and custom-published magazines. As a Redesign Resident, she will be completing two chapters in her book about her father’s childhood in the 1940s and ’50s living on the grounds of one of the most notorious psychiatric hospitals in the United States.
Project Title: Creedmoor tells of the unique experience of one little boy and his family, witnesses of a defining era in America’s struggle to effectively govern mental health, and through their story examines themes of social injustice, governmental overreach, corruption, and the country’s rapidly commercializing drug culture.
