Chelsea Sutton

Discipline/Field: Fiction

Based in: Los Angeles, CA

About: Born and raised in Southern California, Chelsea Sutton is a fiction writer and playwright who writes gothic whimsy – a mix of magical realism, horror, comedy, and domestic and workplace surrealism. Her first chapbook of flash fiction, Only Animals, is coming out in 2024 from Wrong Publishing. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing & Writing for the Performing Arts from UC Riverside.

At Yefe Nof, Chelsea will be following her obsession with ghost stories and cross-genre experimentations in short story structure.

Project Title: Little Known Hauntings of the California Mini Mall is a short story collection that pushes boundaries of the form to deconstruct and reinvent the traditional ghost story. The collection explores the beauty of California, environmental crises faced by the state, and the economic and architectural divisions in this landscape through the lens of the American west, working/middle class perspectives, and fem-presenting experiences.
