About: James Sie is the author of Still Life Las Vegas (St. Martin’s Press, 2015), his debut novel about a boy growing behind the neon of Las Vegas, told in prose, sketch, and narrative art.  He is also a playwright and essayist and can currently be heard as a voiceover artist in animation and audiobook narration.

As a California Writing Resident, James will be working toward completion of the first draft of his second novel.

Project Title: All Kinds of Other. The novel follows two queer teens in Los Angeles, a newly-out cisgender gay boy and a new student, who is hapa, gay, and transgender. It explores the intersectionality of race, sexuality and gender identity within the frame of a simple love story, interspersed with tumblr posts, youtube transcripts and text messages, the common language of today’s teens.
